One of our main match pools, holding 45 pegs, the New pool is also known as the snake pool due to its shape. There are a number of islands to fish to and the average depth around the pool is 5ft. Most pegs have an island to fish to, between 10m to 16m away.
New pool is well stocked with F1 and F2 Carp, Chub, Tench, Roach, Perch, Carp, Barbel, Ide and Bream. There are some big fish in this pool in excess of 20lb but the main target is the F1 Carp which go up to 4.5lb. There are Perch in here up to 4lb and Chub up to 2lb.
House Pool is one of the main match pools with 34 pegs,
House pool is well stocked with over 140,000 fish including F1 Carp, Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Roach, Bream, Tench, Chub, Perch and Golden Orffe. When the lake was built, the first batch of Carp put in were 4" to 6". They are now coming out at 2lbs and over. In addition to the original stocks there are also some hefty Carp in the pool up to and over 20lbs with many between 2lb and 10lb. This pool also holds a lot of F1 Carp, which make up the bulk of match weights.
Holding 33 pegs, this was the second pool dug here at Tunnel Barn and is well matured. It is stocked with a variety of Carp, Bream, Tench, Perch, Barbel, Ide, Roach and Rudd. There are a number of islands to fish to including a sunken one! The bowl area is good for big carp with the hot pegs being either 1 or 33.
The Extension Pool has 39 pegs and is a main match pool that holds Carp, Roach, Bream, Tench, Chub, Perch and Golden Orffe. This pool, like the House pool, also holds a lot of F1’s between 6oz and 4lb. Most pegs have an Island to fish to which ranges between 12m and 16m away. The average depth is 4ft but round the back end in the high 30’s the depth goes to 6ft. The top match weight for 2011 from this pool is 173-10 from peg 23. The highest weight recorded from this lake is 234-1 from peg 20 by Rob Swain in 2008.
High Pool is the newest and the biggest pool on the complex, with 51 pegs. It has been open since April 2012.
This pool is a larger version of the New Pool but is deeper to 8ft in places. There is a ledge on the islands at 3ft and a ledge in the margins at around 3ft. The pool is well stocked with F1 Carp to 3lb Bream, Barbel, Hybrid Crucians, Tench, Stockies, Commons to 10lb, Mirrors to 12lb and plenty of Silverfish. The largest weight recorded so far on this pool is 275lb from peg 30.
Especially designed for the smaller clubs, the Canal pool holds 24 pegs. All pegs on this pool have an island to fish to at 12m. The Carp in this pool are in excess of 20lb, Barbel up to 2.5lb, F1 Carp to 4lb, Bream to 5lb, Tench, Roach to 1lb, Chub to 7lb and Stockies. The margins produce good bags of fish to corn. F1’s, F2’s, Tench and Bream can all be caught at 4m and against the island with the Roach mainly going for maggot. The largest weight recorded on the club pool in 2011 was 264-11 from peg 22 in a 6 hour match. The average depth of this pool if 4ft 6in. There are a number of pegs suitable for disabled anglers.
Jenny’s pool has 27 pegs, there is a central island that all pegs can fish to at 12-16m. The highest weight recorded from Jenny’s so far is 189-9 from peg 25. The lake is well stocked with Mirrors to 14lb, Ghosties to 12lb, Commons to 10lb, Bream to 5lb, F1’s to 4lb, Barbel to 2lb, Roach, Skimmers, Tench & Stockies. The average depth is 5.5ft and there is a ledge on the island at 3ft all the way round. There is also a ledge in the margins at 3ft. This pool is ideal for the smaller club matches.
